The new rock'n'roll. Television programming packed with comedians commenting on the world, the people in it and situations they found themselves in.
Well, if you can't beat them, join them.
Back in October 2009, I made my comedic debut courtesy of a drunken promise made in July (I've now given up – drinking that is, not promises – or comedy) and found that, in my own opinion, I wasn't too bad at it.
Thirteen months later, I found myself at Manchester's Frog and Bucket under my stage name of AFC Baggy being filmed as part of the culmination of a comedy course I had undertaken.
Because Stand-Up comedy is like a legal drug. Up on stage you are king of all you survey, with your audience hanging on your every word. Hopefully they find you funny, and maybe you'll get laughter, titters or sniggers, but it matters not. You are up there and you are performing.
Personally, the very act of writing is enough of a buzz to leave it there, but the roar of the crowd, the smell of the greasepaint, the retina-burn of the spotlights…all cannot be ignored. So let's perform.
